The sun rose behind the privy this morning, and the wind wafted its pungent aromas toward the sleeping hikers, which served as an abrupt wake-up call. Bo and I rolled out at 0800, and I fell asleep reading around 2000 last night–I could definitely tell I was a bit sleep deprived.

There were beautiful overlooks today, and gorgeous flowers demanding attention. Bo and I had to cross a huge fallen tree that had sharp branching sticking out in all directions. Of course, Bo crossed it like it was nothing, while I struggled for a few minutes, squeezing myself and my pack through the opening.

We walked through Licking Gap, followed by Burningtown Gap. Then we stopped at Copperridge lookout and then were faced with a steep, sweltering climb up to Rocky Bald. Next, we passed through Tellico Gap and then climbed Wesser Bald and walked up to the overlook tower. There were incredible 360 views. The trees have still not fully leafed out yet, but they will soon!

Today, I tried to walk downhill with Bo behind me, blocking him from passing with my trekking poles. I feel like I’m heading cattle, we I maneuver Bo with my sticks, but hey, it works! I met “Poppins” and Daisy at the shelter again, then “Widget” joined us, followed by another guy whose name I never caught. Tonight was the first night, Bo, and I stayed in the shelter due to the approaching rain storm. Bo did really well-othering than slowly pushing me off my sleeping pad. “Poppins” gave us some hot chocolate, which I dipped my chocolate chip cookies in before bed. And she gave us some extra dog food too for Bo!
