Bo and I started rolling around 0800 and were careful to avoid the glass shards on our departure. We had some more road walking, and we watched an otter scurry across the road!

When Bo and I hit the 107 road, all the FarOut comments began to make sense because up until then, I hadn’t thought the reroute was too bad. The Forest Service had cut hand line and installed log steps that weren’t back filled straight up and straight down a very steep hill. Each time you stepped on one of the steps, it wobbled, threatening to give way and turn into a bumpy and splintery slip and slide. The comments definitely oversold the reroute. Then again, they oversell most things on the trail, lol. We just had to go slow and step carefully, and we made it past just fine.

The Detour took us a while to get through, and we expelled a good bit of energy. I ran into “Pooh Bear” by the water source before Roan High Knob. She was headed to the tent site up ahead, and I planned to push past. It was nice to see her again after so long, and I was just thinking about reaching out to her the other day!

Bo and I walked through a Southern Spruce Pine forest up to Roan Knob, which had no view. There was a storm rolling in, and Bo and I kept getting blasted with foggy mist sweeping through the forest. Rocky Roan Mtn Shelter was closed for repairs, as well as the Cloud Hotel. Today was the biggest mile day for Bo and I. We planned to get off the mountain with the storm rolling in since there were so many snags, and the wind was really picking up. We went another mile down to the road by Carvers Gap. It was very foggy, misty, and rainy… just a sneak peak for what was to come tomorrow.

We saw the NC sign and then followed the comments down the gaurdrail to where it said there was a good campsite-and it did not disappoint! It got cold and started to rain so I ate dinner in the tent.
